General documentation on continent-topic templates
संपादन करींThis documentation is transcluded from Template:About continent and region topic templates.
The continent/region-topic templates allow quick creation of navigational template for groups of articles about a common topic in different countries of a continent/region. It uses Template:Navbox to create the navigation box.
The lists of countries included in the "Continent topic" templates are broadly those found in the "Countries of" templates. Discussions on which countries to include are best conducted on the talk pages of these latter templates.
For example, Oceania generally includes Australia and the nations of the Pacific and islands in the Pacific Ocean that have closer ties to Asia or the Americas are usually grouped accordingly.
Usage
संपादन करीं1st parameter (prefix)
संपादन करींThe most basic usage of template is with a single unnamed parameter in the format
, replacing Continent/region with the name of a continent or region and Topic with the name of a topic followed by "of" or "in". For example, Geography of
generates a navigation box titled "Geography of Africa" with a list of country names linked to articles such as Geography of Angola, etc.
- Code
Geography of
- Result
The named parameter prefix can be used in place of the unnamed 1st parameter.
- Code

- Result
2nd parameter (suffix)
संपादन करींThe template accepts a second unnamed parameter for text to be placed after the country name. There is no space between the country name and the suffix, to allow for links to articles such as List of Spain-related topics.
This element is absent of : , , , , , ,
- Code
List of
- Result
An underscore can be used to place a space between the country name and the text:
- Code
List of basic
- Result
Note that in the above example the links work but the underscore is displayed in the title. This can be fixed by specifying a title (see next section) or by using the named parameter suffix which always places a space between the country name and text.
- Code

- Result
Changing the title
संपादन करींThe title parameter is used to specify text which appears in the title bar at the top of the navigation box. This is optional because the use of prefix, suffix or both will automatically generate a title, as shown in the previous examples. This title is not automatically wiki-linked, so add brackets as needed.
The following shows a navigation box with links to articles such as Flag of Australia, but replaces the default title "Flag of Oceania" with the specified title "Flags of Oceania".
- Code

- Result
Displaying template in show mode
संपादन करींThese navigation boxes are set to autocollapse
when there is more than one on a page. To force it into collapsed or expanded mode use the state parameter. If set to collapsed
, the navbox will always start out in a collapsed state. If set to blank or anything other than autocollapse
or collapsed
, the navbox will always start out in an expanded state.
- Code

- Result
Disabling dependencies and other territories
संपादन करींNot all dependencies or similar territories have their own articles on particular topics. To disable the inclusion of such territories in a template (that would otherwise appear as red links), include the parameter "countries_only=yes".
- Code
:
- Result
Creating a new template
संपादन करींAlthough these templates can be used in an article, they can also be used to create a new template. The name parameter is mandatory when creating a new template, because it allows the "V T E" links to work properly. The following example shows code that could be used to create Template:Flags of Europe.
{{Europe topic | name = Flags of Europe | state = {{{state|{}}}} | title = Flags of Europe | prefix = Flag of }}<noinclude> </noinclude>
The template can then be added to articles using Flags of Europe
or
.
When to use the templates
संपादन करीं- Before implementing these templates in a topic, check for red links. If there are several red links, consider whether a separate article in the topic for each country is warranted.
- Some topics may use a different navigational scheme. In general, don't use this template if there are already navigational templates in several of the articles of a topic.
Examples of appropriate articles for these templates are Culture of or List of airports in, both of which have a number of blue links, and where the majority of red links could have a reasonable article written about them.
Examples of inappropriate articles for these templates are Maya in, where articles could only be written for a small number of nations and Music of, where articles already have templates which use a different navigational scheme.
Redirects
संपादन करींWhen there are a small number of links for which an article is not appropriate, consider making a redirect to the broader article in which the topic is included. For example, Hinduism in Cambodia redirects to Hinduism in Southeast Asia and Geography of Christmas Island redirects to Christmas Island#Geography.
Notes
संपादन करींNavigational templates are usually placed at the end of an article.
Additional documentation for Template:Europe topic
संपादन करींEnabling links for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales
संपादन करींIn some topics, the constituent countries of the United Kingdom are treated as national entities in their own right. To enable their inclusion in a template, set the parameter |UK_only=
to "no", "n" or "0" (zero). This will put links for England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales in brackets after the UK.
- Code

:
- Result
To enable only some of the constituent countries, their respective parameters ENG, NIR, SCT and WLS (see below) can be used. Set any of them to "yes", "y" or "1" to use the default link as defined by the prefix and suffix, and to anything else (except "no"/"n"/"0") to link to a specific article. For example:

to add England and link it to Foo in England, and
to add England and link it to Bar in England.
If |UK_only=
is defined, these four parameters always link to the specified article, so creates a link to the disambiguation page Yes. Like with other countries (see below), these parameters can also be used to omit some of the constituent countries by setting them to nothing or whitespace only:

to add England, Scotland and Northern Ireland only (all except Wales);
to add England and Wales only (equivalent to
).
Enabling link for Israel
संपादन करींIsrael is a member of UEFA, LEN and several other European sports organizations. With the parameter |IL=
it can be added to the navbox. Set it to "yes", "y" or "1" to use the default link, and to anything else except whitespace for a custom linked article. For example:
- Code

- Result
Removing the article "the"
संपादन करींBy default all links include the article "the" for countries like the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. In some cases this is not wanted; for example, the example from the previous section contains links to The Czech Republic national football team instead of Czech Republic national football team. To remove the leading article, set the parameter |article=
to anything except "yes":
- Code

- Result
Note that Europe topic, together with Asia topic, is the only continent-topic template to have an "article" parameter. In most other templates "the" is automatically included if there is no suffix and cannot be manually added or suppressed.
Suppressing "(country)" for Georgia
संपादन करींBy default, the link for Georgia includes the disambiguator "(country)". Set the parameter |template=
to anything except "yes" to suppress this:
- Code

- Result
Disabling links for "former"
संपादन करींIf some topic is inapplicable to the former European countries of Czechoslovakia, East Germany, the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia, they can be removed from the list by the addition of the parameter |no_former=yes
.
- Code

:
- Result
Disabling links for "other entities"
संपादन करींIf some topic is inapplicable to the European Union, the European Economic Area or the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, they can be removed from the list by the addition of the parameter |no_other_entities=yes
.
Additionally there is a rough check for existence of the particular EU/EEA/SMOM article and if there isn't such - the entity with a missing article is automatically not shown in the template (see Vatican City explanation below).
- Code

:
- Result
Additionally, if some template is applicable to only one of these three entities, the redundant entity can be removed by adding the corresponding parameter as shown below:

Vatican City
संपादन करींAs the Vatican is such a small country, with 0.44 km2 and 826 inhabitants, many articles about it would be meaningless; for example, "Hinduism in the Vatican City". So the condition for the Vatican to appear in any template created using this one is the preexistence of the article about the Vatican. That is why the Vatican City doesn't appear on many templates (such as Hinduism in Europe).
Altering the link used for a specific entity
संपादन करींTo change the link used for a single state, Dependency, territory, or other entity, use the following parameters:

If the parameter is specified, but left blank, the entity will be omitted from the list. For |GB=
, leaving the parameter blank will simply unlink the text if |UK_only=no
is also specified.
As an example: in some sports there's one team for the island of Ireland, covering both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, while England, Scotland and Wales compete separately. In such cases the parameters |IE=
and |NIR=
can be used to omit Northern Ireland and have Ireland link to "... of Ireland" rather than "... of the Republic of Ireland":
- Code

- Result
