This template can be used to insert a link to a waterfall's page at the World Waterfall Database.

The URL of a waterfall information page at the database looks like this:

http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Waterfall-Name-ID/

where Waterfall-Name is the name of the waterfall, as it appears in the database (with any spaces replaced by hyphens “-”, and possibly other text manipulations for characters that are not allowed in URLs), and ID is a numerical code. For example, the information page for Niagara Falls has the following URL:

http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Niagara-Falls-106/

This template will substitute Wikipedia article name for Waterfall-Name, after stripping any disambiguating term(s) in parentheses and then replacing any spaces by hyphens. If this would generate an incorrect URL, then a correct Waterfall-Name can be provided using name in url parameter (see below).

The template has 3 parameters:

  • name (optional), name of the waterfall as in should appear in Wikipedia article. If not provided, article title will be used, after stripping any disambiguating term(s) in parentheses.
  • name in url (optional), Waterfall-Name as it appears in the URL of the database page. If not provided, the value of name parameter will be used, after replacing any spaces by hyphens. If name is also missing, then article title will be used, after stripping any disambiguating term(s) in parentheses and then replacing any spaces by hyphens.
  • id, waterfall ID as it appears in the URL of the database page.

Dettifoss:

  • URL: http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Dettifoss-119/
  • Wiki-code (assuming it is used in the article Dettifoss): {{wwdb name |id=119}}
  • Wiki-code (in any article): {{wwdb name |name=Dettifoss |id=119}} or {{wwdb name |name in url=Dettifoss |id=119}}
  • Result: "Dettifoss". World Waterfall Database.

Selfoss (waterfall) (note the disambiguating term in parentheses is stripped from the URL)

  • URL: http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Selfoss-659/
  • Wiki-code (assuming it is used in the article Selfoss (waterfall)): {{wwdb name |id=659}}
  • Result: "Selfoss". World Waterfall Database.

Niagara Falls (note the space in article name converted to a hyphen in the URL, when name in url parameter is not provided):

  • URL: http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Niagara-Falls-106/
  • Wiki-code (assuming it is used in the article Niagara Falls): {{wwdb name |id=106}} or {{wwdb name |name in url=Niagara-Falls |id=106}}
  • Wiki-code (in any article): {{wwdb name |name=Niagara Falls |id=106}} or {{wwdb name |name in url=Niagara-Falls |id=106}}
  • Result: "Niagara Falls". World Waterfall Database.

Iguazu Falls (page is named “Iguazú, Cataratas del” in the World Waterfall Database, so Waterfall-Name can't be guessed from Wikipedia article title and has to be provided in name in url parameter):

  • URL: http://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Iguazu-Cataratas-del-109/
  • Wiki-code (assuming it is used in the article Iguazu Falls): {{wwdb name |name in url=Iguazu-Cataratas-del |id=109}}
  • Result: "Iguazu Falls". World Waterfall Database.
